SSL (Secure Socket Layer) Certificates encrypt data between a web server and the browser and have long been required for any website that collects sensitive data.
As of July 2018, in a push to make HTTPS standard across all websites, Google Chrome now warns browsers who visit a “non-secure” site. For several years, HTTPS has also been a ranking factor for Google search results. So for data security, visitor trust and overall googlyness, we recommend all websites enable SSL.
The Wire offers a free Lets Encrypt SSL certificate enabled via the web hosting control panel or installs commercial SSL certificates. Please contact Support for assistance activating Let’s Encrypt or installing commercial SSL.
