UPDATE AND UPGRADE YOUR COMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEM

The industry wide upgrade of SSL certificates from SHA-1 to SH-2 encryption in 2014 now requires Mac OS 10.5+ or Windows XP SP3+ to avoid browser and email error warnings. Here are milestone support dates and minimum versions numbers for browsers, operating systems, servers and email programs to avoid issues.

USE COMMERCIAL ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE

One of the top ways your internet is compromised is by a hacking of your accounts typically done via malware installed on your computer that allows tracking of your passwords. This allows users among other things to send bulk mail spam through your domain.

CREATE STRONG PASSWORDS

Use strong passwords including letters and numbers for your control panel login, email accounts, ftp accounts etc. DirectAdmin no longer allows weak, dictionary or name passwords. Consider using a tool or app to store passwords.

UPDATE AND UPGRADE WEBSITE SOFTWARE

A website that is hacked can be defaced or used to send spam which can effect you and other clients on a shared server. Please update your website applications or scripts as needed. Note that a WordPress installation may need updates several times a year and themed sites can be auto-upgraded via Instalatron.
