Enabling TLS Encryption for POP3/IMAPConnections

Secure your POP3 and IMAP email connections with TLS (Transport Layer Security) encryption. Follow these client-specific instructions to protect your email retrieval:

Microsoft Outlook 365

  • Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings
  • Click your email account and Select Repair
  • Under Advanced Options, Check “Let me repair my account manually”, then click Repair
  • Under “Server Port Numbers”, check “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL/TLS)”
  • Verify ports: 993 (IMAP with SSL/TLS) or 995 (POP3 with SSL/TLS)
  • For outgoing server, select the “Outgoing server” tab and under “Encryption Method” choose SSL/TLS and Port 465 or STARTTLS and Port 587

Apple Mail

  • Open Mail > Preferences > Accounts
  • Select your account and click the “Advanced” tab
  • Check “Use TLS/SSL” for both incoming and outgoing servers
  • Verify correct ports: 993 (IMAP with SSL/TLS) or 995 (POP3 with SSL/TLS)
  • Click “OK” to save these secure connection settings

Mozilla Thunderbird

  • Go to Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings
  • Under “Security Settings,” select “SSL/TLS” for connection security
  • Verify the port numbers: 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP3)
  • For outgoing server, go to “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” and select “SSL/TLS”
  • Verify SMTP port 465 for SSL/TLS or 587 for STARTTLS

Most modern email clients default to secure settings, but manually configuring TLS for your POP3/IMAP connections ensures your credentials and email content remain encrypted during transmission. These settings provide protection against man-in-the-middle attacks and eavesdropping.
